The Gospel of God

One Truth

There are many different beliefs out there, and many that claim to be truth.  Several of your friends might tell you that all ways are truth or lead to heaven or God.  But is it possible that there is only One Truth, One Life, One Way?

The answer is yes.  And that answer is Jesus.

Jesus answered, ‘I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.  No one can get to the Father except through Me.’” –John 14:6

The Plan
In the beginning was God.  God was and is and will always be.  He made time and He created the world and everything in it.  He also made humans, and He desires a relationship with each one of us, and we desire one with Him, even if we don’t know it.  Have you ever felt like something is missing?  Perhaps you have tried to fill that void.  People try to fill this large hole in their hearts with all kinds of things—money, a boyfriend or girlfriend, family, career.  But nothing seems to work, does it?  God specifically made that hole in each of our hearts so that we can realize that He is the only One big enough to fulfill that longing for Him in our souls.

But God is righteous, just, and holy—He cannot help it, for that is just who He is.  Because He loves us so much, He has given each one of us free will so that we can choose to love and follow Him.  Unfortunately, because we are mortals and not God, we chose to rebel and disobey our Creator.  We chose to sin.  We sin when we think about and do wrong things, which is all the time.

Sin is a huge, vast, gaping ravine that stretches open between God and man.  The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death.”  This means spiritual death—both on earth and after we die.  On earth it means separation from God, because God just cannot fellowship in a sinful person—He is simply too holy.  It is the same way after our life here.  There is a place that has absolutely not a trace of God in it.  This place is called hell, and we go there if we are stained with sin, which we all are.

People can try to make that leap over the yawning canyon to God, but we can’t.  Sin literally means “missing the mark.”  We can never amount to God’s righteousness by our own strength, no matter how much good we do.  The truth is that this tear between God and man is only big enough for God to mend.

So God the Father, because He loves us so much, sent His one and only Son into the world, Jesus Christ.  Jesus lived a perfectly sinless life, because He was God.  The Father and the Son lived in perfect harmony and unity with one another as one God, along with God the Holy Spirit, who we will tell you more about.  When Jesus died on the cross, He put the sin of the world on His shoulders; Jesus was our sacrificial Lamb who took our punishment so that we can spend life in and after life with God forever (John 1:29).  3 days later, He defeated sin and death by rising up again in life!  After a while he ascended back into heaven with God.  If we receive His forgiveness, we are justified--"just as if you've never sinned."  Through Christ crucified we can have eternal life with God.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” –Romans 6:23

To be saved from sin and from hell, all we have to do is receive God’s grace by repenting of our sins and asking His forgiveness in order to enter into a relationship and life with Him with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us after He left to heaven.  If you have never prayed to God for forgiveness, ask Him today.  Pray these words to Him (you can personalize this prayer if you want, it doesn’t matter what you say; it only matters if you are earnest) :

“God, I am a sinner.  I have rebelled against you, and I am so sorry.  I plead that You forgive my sins through the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

I confess that You, Jesus, are Lord.  I make You Lord and King of my life.  God, please receive me; I receive You.  I pray that Your Spirit will live in me and You will teach me what it means to live for You.  Fill the void in my life and come into my heart.

Thank You for forgiving me and thank You for Your grace!  I commit myself to You.”

If you have really prayed that to God for the first time, that is really amazing!  There is a huge party going on in heaven because you have repented!  Angels are singing and God is so incredibly happy.  We would be overjoyed, too, to find out, so don’t hesitate to share your testimony with us, and we would love to pray for you and support you in your new walk with Christ.

A New Life
When we receive God’s forgiveness and commit our lives to Him, we really do have to give our all.  Of course, being the mortals we are, we aren’t perfect.  We’ll make mistakes.  But that’s when we repent, turn from that sin with the power of God, and continue to grow in Him.

You may not feel any different for a while, but that’s OK.  You’ll see a difference in your life as you allow God to work in you and on your heart.  That is where the Holy Spirit comes in.  He (who is God) helps and convicts us.  He will teach you the ways of the Lord.

You may also be confused about many aspects of the faith.  You might have a lot of questions, and that’s OK too!  Read the Bible and pray often, and join a church that teaches the Bible.  Get plugged into their youth group and be baptized as a testimony of your new faith in Christ.  Don’t hesitate to talk to the pastor there and ask him questions you have!  Stay committed to God; He is faithful, and He cares for and loves you so much!

Living for the Lord truly is an adventure and we really hope that you get to experience that journey!  Like we’ve said, tell us about it and we’ll keep you in our prayers.

Blessings,
